A happy photo!

Here's a photo of Maia's first ever ride on a horse:
Maia went with her three-year-old class at Triangle to a beautiful family farm today for a pumpkin picking field trip. The farm was lovely--one house, lots of acres, a wide variety of fruits and veggies growing (we saw peppers, tomatoes, the remnants of eggplant and corn fields, and of course squash in all forms), and the family's two beautiful horses. Maia rode Lizzie, the magnificent black Percheron who's 17.5 hands tall and sports some lovely pink dye in her mane. It was the perfect autumn outing, really. We were able to see all of the trees in their stunning fall colors, and on the wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch we saw sandhill cranes and Canada geese gathering to migrate. Our family generally avoids the circus-like atmosphere of most "pumpkin patches"--corn mazes, bounce houses, slides, piles of pumpkins (none of which are actually growing on vines), and sometimes even a cover charge to get in the gate! No, thanks. Today's farm was perfect, and I think we might try to go back when Brian can join us. It was out in the country outside Dexter, which ends up being about 30 minutes from home. An added bonus: the drive-through coffee at Zingerman's Roadshow is on the way there. :)

I wore Eli in my wrap carrier, as always, and he was a lovely companion. There were several other nursing moms there with the younger siblings of Maia's classmates, and so we all sat in the fields and gave the little ones a milk break together.

Love it: so pastoral and idyllic! A group of breastfeeding women sitting cross-legged in an autumnal-harvest field, older children frolicking with livestock nearby. Where's Winslow Homer when you need him?
