Big milestones for the end of 2010

1. After listening to Maia chattering on about words and letters on a drive home from downtown, I went into the basement and pulled out my old Guided Reading materials (left from my days teaching first grade) and brought them upstairs. We pulled up some Level A books that we found online, and, sure enough, Maia was able to read them! It was a big day in the life of a Hecker-Genisio girl: today was Maia's first day as a book reader! :) I'm thrilled beyond words, and so proud of her. We're going to add this into our daily routine as often as she likes; between dinner and evening snack, I'll help her out with her own reading, and at bedtime, Brian will continue with their novel reading routine. (They are starting Harry Potter in a couple of days; Brian got her the whole series in a box set for her birthday. Shhhh, don't tell her until Sunday!) Sounds like a great plan!

2. Eli's second tooth came in this morning, and now he can officially sit up on his own. He's getting so big!
