Maia the Science Kid

  • We were talking about food chains in the car on one of our drives home from downtown. Maia got home and proceeded immediately to the bathroom, where she settled in to do her business. After a couple of minutes we hear her little voice coming through the door, and she says "Actually, Mama, another word for food chain is ecosystem."
  • She laid out a picnic on the kitchen floor for various members of a food chain, using her plastic and wood play food items. The herbivores had a plant-based line of options, the omnivores had both meat and veggies, and the carnivores had bologna and bacon.
  • She was watching the film Ice Age today and informed us that "The place that's north where it's very cold? That place? Another word for it is 'Arctic.'" :)
  • There's a saber tooth tiger in the movie, and she told us that she learned at the museum--where she took a recent trip with Papa--that a saber is "a long, sharp tooth!" I guess the museum has saber tooth tiger fossils? Papa would know for sure.
I love Maia so much I can barely hold it.
