Maia was getting a bit bent out of shape, a bit drama-queen-ish about my request for her to help me clean the playroom a bit. She started to stomp. She started to huff and puff. And then I heard her standing behind me, taking a deep breath, and it stopped.
She exclaimed with a smile, "I noticed my angry-ness, and I thought about why I was angry, and then it just went away! It wasn't so big anymore!"
Auntie JoJo, the mindfulness is working! Not surprisingly, it works (I think) more easily and quickly for a five-year-old than it does for an adult. :)

In other news, Eli's begun using words in sentences as of the last couple of days, which is a very cool and Mr. Big Kid development. Yesterday he said "Done, the book!" when Brian finished reading a book to him, and this morning he said "No, Bell!" when the dog was putting her front feet up on his chair during breakfast.
He also has two favorite picture books these days that he asks for by name. "YaYa" is for Punk Farm; we assume that he got this from the "E-I-E-I" part of the "Old MacDonald" song that they sing in the book. He also says "Night Night" for How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?--an Eli favorite that he can sit and listen to all the way through (sometimes twice!). He assumes the reading position on your lap, with his big, sweet-smelling toddler head on your sternum and his big diapered butt right on your lap. His legs stretch down almost to your knees, and it feels like he lets gravity do its work as he drops all of his substantial weight onto you. It's awesome. :)

Now if only I could get my sad-ness to make like Maia's angry-ness and go away, or at least to get less big... Maybe I am doing it wrong.
Does she wear her buddha and Celtic-knot pendants?
