Dude Bug!

Yesterday we were in Battle Creek for a Medich Christmas party. On the way to the car, Maia looked at me, furrowed her brow a bit, and said--in a very loud, clear and distinct voice--"DUDE BUG!" It really funny, and I have a new nickname for her!

This nickname is similar to some of our many nicknames for her: Bug, Twinkle, Twinkle Worm, Doctor Worm, Worm, Twinkle Monster, Twinkle Lobster, Mai Mai, Cuddle Bug and Puppy.

I guess it is appropriate. She is all of those things and more :)

Last night, Cara and I went to the Youssou N'Dour concert. It was a ton of fun. There were 4 drummers (mostly African drums) and 4 tonal instruments. The drums were a huge part of the show, and it made it one of the most fun shows I have ever seen. Those who have known me most my life are very aware that music has always been a big part of who I am. For whatever reason, I have lost that a bit...

Now that I am a parent, I have been thinking a lot about how music is going to fit in to the way I relate to my child. I hope very much that Maia will grow up to enjoy music and drums AND that I get to share that interest with her.

I think we are on the right track. She seems very interested in music... I have taken her to a few live performances so far and she seems to really enjoy them. She dances when she hears the beat of a drum, the sound of a band playing, or even her dad's atonal singing voice. She watches with great interest when she sees musicians perform and often kicks her feet.

Dude Bug!
