We commenced our party yesterday morning by driving Cara to the airport. After we dropped her off, we visited our local "Coney" for a pancake breakfast. Maia wooed the waitstaff with her polk-a-dot PJs and snow boots.
Later that day, Maia had her first sledding adventure! I picked the most least offensive sled hill in town as to not scare her. She loved it. The funniest part was how we got back to the top of the hill after our ride. She would say "Maia lay down on the sled!". She would lay down with her cheek pressed against the sled and hands tightly gripping the handles. I would pull her up the hill with a rope. After that, we would go down together. Rinse and repeat. She couldn't get enough.
Afterwards, we went to a local coffee shop (Sweetwaters) and enjoyed some hot cocoa and yogurt. For dinner, we went to a taqueria for some delicious tamales.
This morning, we went to our UU church. Maia refers to this as "Meet friends and play" since she goes into the child care room while we go to the service. Because today is the Winter Solstice, they had a drum circle. About 25 parents and kids (including us) grooved to the beats of the drums. I loved this because other than a recent circle with our Fife-Adams friends, I haven't been to a drum circle since college. As for Maia, she couldn't get enough. She jumped from instrument to instrument, hitting them and laughing. She even danced! If you have ever seen Maia dance, she looks at the ground and spins in circles. It was much like a hippie might dance to Phish. It was very fitting for the occasion.
Speaking of the Winter Solstice, it is my Mom's (Maia's Grandma) birthday today. Happy birthday, Mom!
