Hello everyone! We're just back from Maia's 12-month appointment at the pediatrician, and all is well. Here are Maia's stats for our long and lean girl:
Weight: 20 lbs. (30th-ish percentile--and we can front-face her carseat now!)
Length: 31 inches (95th percentile)
Head: 47 cm (90th percentile)
Maia's rattle in her chest, which has persisted now for about three weeks, isn't of any concern because she doesn't have a sore throat or ear infection to go with it. That's good news! Our doctor said that it's probably some post-nasal drip, which can really rattle around in little chests and throats.
What else? The doctor confirmed that Maia's first molars are appearing--it initially surprised her when we told her that, because it's on the early side for them to show up. But yes, they're coming, and this is often the hardest part of teething. So, hold on to your seats! We could have a rough month or so ahead of us. (But maybe not.)
Maia had four immunizations (MMR, chicken pox, Hep A . . . and . . . something I can't remember at the moment) and handled them more easily than she's handled any shots so far. That was a surprise, because she had a relatively tough time with the 9-month shots. The doctor supported our choice not to get the flu vaccine because Maia's not in daycare or regularly exposed to kids who are; this really cuts down on the risk of her catching the flu.
And finally, for a moment, let me express how thrilled I am that we have a pediatrician who's really supportive of long-term breastfeeding! She was talking with us at the appointment about the rarity of seeing families who are still nursing at 12 months, and she said that we earned a "gold star" for being one of the few. I think that it's really unusual in the U.S. to go to a 12-month appointment with a baby who's nursing and not have a discussion about weaning. But that's exactly what happened today! :) She even said that we could give Maia some cow's milk if we felt like it, but there's really no need because of the continued nursing. It means a lot to me to feel supported in all of this, and to not feel apprehensive about the conversations and assumptions that might arise at these appointments. Warm fuzzies, indeed. :)

I'm curious who your pediatrician is since I don't think you go to libery peds.
We're with Dr. Stone at the Pediatric Healthcare Associates (IHA). We've been really happy with her since day one, when we met her at the "meet and greet" before Maia was born. :)
