It was a fantastic collaborative meal, one that the Genisios and the F-A family have gotten to enjoy in the past year. They are a really good family to know, and we ALWAYS have a good time with them.
Harper, Esme and Maia rocked out to Taj Mahal's kids album while Hanna (their foreign exchange student from Germany) played along on the bongos. The bongos morphed slowly into a full-on drum circle. Everyone had an instrument... wood blocks, drums, shakers, and toy xylophone got everyone jamming! The youngest kids, Harper and Maia, seemed to enjoy this the most. It was great to see Maia playing the xylophone and laughing while we all made rhythm together. It was a blast. We have some pictures, but they were taken near the end of our 45 minute jam session, so they don't really capture the fun.
By the end, all the kids were tired (so were the parents) and we parted ways. It was a good night.
Recipe for Rhubarb-Ade (aka Princess Esme's Pink Drink):
1 bunch of rhubarb
5-10 strawberries
Sugar to taste
1. Chop the rhubarb and take the tops off the strawberries. Put them in a food processor and puree (about 60 seconds)
2. Pour half of the puree on to a coffee filter and wrap it like a ball. Wrap the coffee filter ball with cheese cloth. Wring it out until all liquid has been expressed. Discard the pulp.
3. Mix with water at a 3:1 ratio (water:juice). Sweeten with sugar. About 1/2 cup is a good start for 8 cups. Add more to taste if necessary.
4. Chill the juice in a pitcher and server cold
