We had our first day of legitimate snow here in Ann Arbor this year, which makes me think of the childhood "first snow" contests that our gym teacher, Mr. Frentz, used to hold throughout the entire Marble School student body. What did the winner (who accurately predicted the first day that Mr. Chip would have to shovel snow) receive? I don't remember. Anyone remember?
Maia had a pretty lousy night of sleep last night, and so she was wiped out by 11:00 AM and took a three-hour nap through the middle of the day today. Brian and I (mostly Brian) cooked a lot during her nap, and so the longer stretch of time was appreciated by all. We worked together to make a big pot of chili, Brian made a couple of pans of chicken enchiladas, and he also made hamburger patties to store in the freezer. It can be a bit of a bummer to see three cherished weekend hours fly by with all of the prep work, cooking, and clean-up that goes into projects like this. On the other hand, it comes very much in handy during the week when we have healthy, homemade, already-prepared food to turn to on an evening when I'm teaching until 8:30 PM or perhaps coming home after 12, 18, or 24 (or more) hours in the hospital with my doula client.
Maia was in a very silly mood this evening, and I got some photos of her riding her rocking horse during her "naked baby time" (tonight we were able to convince her to keep her diaper on). She was playing peek-a-boo with Brian and having a grand old time in just a diaper and socks. Ain't life grand?? :)
