Maia's Fairy Door

From Feb. 3

So, there's this Ann Arbor thing with fairy doors all around town. Maia had her first memorable introduction to one of the doors courtesy of an older kid at the downtown library. The older girl was thrilled to show her the door, and they both spent some time leaving pennies at the door's threshold (and the fairies inside left them a nickel in exchange for one of the pennies!).

Well, now we have a fairy door in our very own home, and Maia spent about 20 minutes staring at it, waiting for the fairies to come out, talking about it, checking back again, etc. After a significant amount of time passed with this sort of thing, we got a bit stir crazy in the house, and so we paid a visit to the fairies' abode at Sweetwater's Cafe. Maia left a note that said "I love you, Fairies!", along with a sparkly barrette and a piece of ribbon as gifts.

Her imagination is running wild these days. We actually didn't expect the fairy door thing to snag her in this way just yet, but here we are! She also had her first run-through with an all-time favorite book, Where the Wild Things Are (which she read with Nana this afternoon) and she's been talking about Max and the Wild Things all evening. She keeps saying "I'm not scared," as if to point out that those Wild Things really are pretty lame to be afraid of little old Max. :)

Love the photo. Wish they had these when my kids were that age. Looks like a blast.

If I leave $10 in the fairy door, will the fairy replace it with $50? What's the limit on this kind of transaction?

Dude, gotta get me one of those.
