This week in review.

Hey again. It's time for this week's blog update. I hope that everyone out there is doing well and is having a lovely month of June so far. It's just after 10 AM and I've just put Maia in her bed for her 10:00 nap. She'll probably sleep until 11:30 or 12:00 noon, which gives me some time to write here and also to work on my medical terms/procedures outline for Lamaze.

Maia's good sleep has returned, and in a big way! Last night we witnessed her longest stretch of sleep ever in her little life: 8 hours and 15 minutes! She fell asleep at about 8:15 PM, and didn't wake up again until 4:30 in the morning. Her sleep this whole week has been just great, so we're definitely enjoying it while it lasts. I've heard the tales of teething woe from some of the members of my Mother's Group, so we're treasuring these quiet nights while we have them.

What else? Well, Maia is approaching six months of age (her 6-month appointment with the Ped. is on Monday the 25th), so we're looking ahead to beginning solid foods quite soon. There's some relatively new medical research that seems to indicate that babies can no longer get the iron they need from breastmilk alone around the age of six months, so it's certainly time to start solids within the next couple of weeks. Of course, I still plan to continue nursing, too, and we'll be mixing my milk with whatever foods she eats for a while. I'm not ready to even begin thinking about weaning her from nursing, yet!

It is Maia's very first Bloomsday this Saturday (yep, I'm a big nerd! But I have to celebrate this holiday ever since college). I think the three of us are going to head out to Conor O'Neil's pub on Main St. on Saturday afternoon for a Guinness in honor of Leopold and Molly and Mr. Joyce. They have a bunch of tables out on the sidewalk, and it's becoming a favorite stop of ours on a sunny spring or summer afternoon. We've been there twice in the last five weeks or so . . . which doesn't sound like much of a "favorite" hang out, but that's a pretty big achievement with the little one along! The last time we went Maia reached out her curious little hand and grabbed the rim of Brian's beer glass, spilling it all over the table and onto Brian's leg. Quite humorous. :) She was sitting on his lap at the time, so she's lucky she didn't spend the rest of the afternoon covered in Hefeweizen.
