Hey everyone! We went to Maia's 9-month appointment this morning (even though she's only 8 1/2 months . . .), and here are the stats:
Weight: 19.25 lbs.
Length: 28.25 inches.
Head circ: 46 cm.
She's still a pretty big girl. Not in terms of her weight (which is at about the 60th percentile), but in terms of her length (about the 80th) and her head (95th). Maia is long and relatively lean, with a big old noggin on top! :) Her rate of weight gain has slowed down considerably, which is completely normal and is supposed to happen after the first six months or so. So, all is well.
We're particularly happy to know that the iron levels in her blood are normal; we've been ignoring conventional wisdom somewhat by not giving her iron-fortified cereal these last three months, so we're very pleased to know that she's getting the iron she needs from my milk. (I take iron in my vitamin to make sure that she gets it from me.) There's a lot of evidence that iron in breastmilk is more readily absorbed by the body than iron-fortified stuff anyway, so we can keep doing what we're doing!
She had one immunization, which was a nice relief from the four or five per visit that she'd been dealing with since she was 2 months old. She's upstairs on her way to sleep right now, and I'm about to begin preparing for teaching this evening. It's my last class of my "student teaching" series, and I've already started teaching on my own on Monday nights (last night was class two). So, I have some things to work on! Later.
