This morning I went to get Maia out of her bed, ready to start our day with a bath for Maia and a change out of pyjamas. I was wearing my PJs, too, which included a "Michigan Alumni" t-shirt (both words in all caps).
Maia looked at my shirt with quite a lot of attention and focus for a few seconds. She then pointed to the first "M" in Michigan, and said "Maia." She then said "Mama." Then, she traced her finger over to the "M" in Alumni, and did the same.
When she was about a year old, we got her a couple of little notebooks and a set or two of crayons. If you were to open one of those notebooks right now, you'd see several pages of Maia's writing interspersed with Brian and I taking the opportunity to draw a picture or write a word. Usually, those words are Maia, Mama, and Dada.
It seems pretty clear that she recognized the "M" on my shirt and was able to link it to the same letter in the words that she's seen us write in her book. How cool is that???!!! :)
I've been away at a three-day seminar, and today is my first day back and home and into the normal routine. Moments like these make me so thrilled to have this time back, back to normal.
