Life these days

We've finally had some very snowy winter days in the last couple of weeks, and it's been a lovely departure from the lame winter we've had in Ann Arbor so far. I figure, if it's going to be cold and cloudy, then it should at least be beautiful and snowy, too, right?

Life is moving along beautifully. Here's a snapshot, in bullet point form (because I'm organized like that . . .)
  • Maia's favorite expression today was "Oh, I get it!". So charming. She was talking about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores in the car today, and we'd talked about our different types of teeth (incisors, canines, molars) earlier this week, and she had a moment of clarity about why people need different kinds of teeth. So, two or three times, her little voice in the backseat of the car piped-up with "Oh, I get it!" Different kinds of teeth = ability to eat multiple kinds of food. :)
  • Baby G #2 is doing well, as far as I can tell from my vantage point. He/she reacted strongly with a lot of movement to some spicy tandoori chicken and koorma that I had for dinner a couple of nights ago.
  • We need to get started with meetings with our doula to begin preparing for this birth. Note to self . . . get those on the calendar.
  • Potty training: halfway there. Maia hasn't had a wet accident in a couple of weeks, but the "BMs into the potty" idea is still not clicking just yet. For us, potty training has been a process of teaching two very separate processes. It just doesn't seem to register to Maia as one thing, which makes some sense, I suppose. But halfway there is a big achievement in my book.
  • Maia is a part of the three-year-old class at Triangle Cooperative Nursery in the fall. She was initially wait-listed for this preschool, but a spot opened up, and we're so very happy! We know one esteemed Triangle alumna and one current student, and we're looking forward to following in their footsteps. :)
  • Our first (and likely only) ultrasound scan is on Tuesday afternoon next week. Maia's going to join us, and we're psyched to see Baby G #2 doing his/her thing in there.
  • Brian's job continues to go very well, and he seems to be loving his new work and new flexibility. Just this morning, the three of us went to Zingerman's together for a little breakfast, and I think he worked there for a bit before heading into the office (Maia and I headed home so that we could be joined by my two day-care kids for the morning). Such a treat to work downtown in a town that he loves!
I think that serves as a decent summing-up for the moment. It's time to begin prepping for dinner. Maia and Papa are at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, and Brian's on the way home from work, and we all need to get together and eat before I head off to an evening meeting with a doula client of mine. Life is good, and busy!
