Where we're at.

A brief update, as I take a break from a frenzy of house cleaning that started the minute we shut the door to Maia's room for the night.

1) Potty training has gone really well. Maia's a pro at peeing in the potty now; I'd say that she was fully successful at this after about a week or so. Bowel movements, she's still not there yet--it's frustrating for her and us at times, but we'll get there. Until then, we're still using Pull-Ups when she has to go #2.

2) Maia now falls fully asleep at night without the pacifier. We gradually moved up the minutes without paci day-by-day; tonight, as I type this, she's asleep in her bed without a paci and won't be getting it for another 30 minutes. At this point our deal is that she goes 60 minutes without the paci, but in a couple of days I suspect we'll move on to her getting it when we go to bed, and then we'll go to complete paci "weaning." It's been very, very gradual, over the course of weeks, but it's working. Maia's just not a cold turkey kind of girl.

3) I've moved on from the worst of my morning sickness at last. I'm just starting my fifth month (week 17), and I have my second appointment with my midwife this coming Thursday. Our 20-week ultrasound scan is on March 2, but because we're not finding out the gender this time around (at least that's the plan right now), that will be a cool opportunity to connect with baby in a new way rather than focusing on the usual BIG GENDER REVEAL!

4) We had our first preschool open house last Saturday, we have another tomorrow, and then another Tuesday morning. All three preschools are co-ops, which means there's a larger parental involvement requirement (2-3 times in the classroom per month, which Brian and I will split) but a significantly lower cost than a traditional non-co-op. Maia didn't immediately get a spot after the lottery for the first preschool (she's on the wait list), but we haven't made any decisions about our first choice yet, so that's fine... We're looking forward to checking out the other options in the next few days.

That's about all for the moment. Brian's off playing board games with friends this evening (it's his bi-weekly Friday night out, in the tradition of alternating Friday nights that we've established over the last three years) and I'm about to go scrub the shower. Thankfully, next Friday night is mine... :)

Congratulations on all the successes! So which preschools are your favorites? I'm very happy with the co-op we're in here (even though it's still not quite as cool as the one Esme was in).

We've visited Triangle (where we're wait-listed) and Stone School (where we have a spot). I know how much you guys loved Triangle!
