Happy Monday!

It's a beautifully sunny day outside, and Maia and I are enjoying it together. The family for whom I did my doula work back in February very generously gave me a gift certificate to Zingerman's, so Maia and I went over there earlier this afternoon to share a BLT, a pickle, and some applesauce. While we were there, she walked all over their patio area, greeted a couple of dogs who were hanging out with their people, and insisted on climbing all the staircases that she could find.

Brian called us from his layover at O'Hare, and Maia held onto the phone and said "Hi" and "Dada!" His return trip seems to be going smoothly so far, so we're going to leave and go get him at the airport in about 45 minutes. Maia's taking a brief nap right now so she'll be all charged-up and ready to play outside once Brian's back home with us.

She's had a couple of new words over the last days: box, socks, down, book and shoe (more-refined versions of the last two; they've been in her repertoire for a while, but they're much more clear now). I would say from that list that she's working on the /o/ sound, but, because it's a vowel, the sound isn't consistent from word to word. But, maybe there's something about the "o" shape to her mouth that she's finding interesting right now, and she's practicing the sounds that go with it. Also, her "It's a _____." sentence is really cute and oft-repeated around here. The sentence "It's a ball" seems to be her go-to phrase for the coolest thing that one can possibly say in the English language!
