39 weeks.

The appointment update: no change from last week. The baby is still healthy, and we still have no pre-labor signs. The waiting game continues.

Of course, the lack of a positive is not a negative. This baby can still come at any time (even today!). We will continue to wait, and know that our baby will come when it is ready.

You know, I have this picture in my mind of the two of you sitting around the living room, staring intently at Cara's marvelously swollen abdomen, murmuring, "come on, come on, come on..." and checking your watches.

I truly don't mean to be flippant - of course what's happening/about-to-happen is huge and overwhelms everything else (and I'm sure, too, that since this is the baby blog you don't necessarily want to write about all of the minutiae of non-baby-related life) - but I do hope you're finding small ways to enjoy these final weeks alone together...

How perfect that Mom has treated you to a night out! Go to a really nice restaurant, one where you won't necessarily want to take a high chair and diaper-change supplies, and live it up. You have a lot to celebrate - and so much of it is happening right now, already!

Love to you both.

Jo, I'd be lying if I said your image wasn't a bit accurate from time-to-time. It's mostly in the evenings, I suppose, when the baby is active (and BIG!), and my back and joints are feeling the effects of the extra weight. Fortunately, that's not a constant throughout the day.

The best comparison I can come up with is this: it's the feeling of getting ready to go on a long trip. Your bags are packed, your passport and tickets are organized, and you know how you're getting to the airport. The anticipation is enormous--perhaps you've been waiting for this vacation for months, or perhaps someone really special to you is going to be at your destination. But here's the kicker: you have NO IDEA what day you'll be going. That's the aspect of it that's strange and challenging for me to adjust to. I've had tremendous anticipation for various things throughout my life, but never (that I can think of) with this uncertainty of timing attached to it.

But anyway, yes, there's the mundane stuff: I just got home from Barnes & Noble where I had a decaf latte and read some silly magazines. I intended to write one of my last short papers, but I left the assignment at home. Alas. It'll be done by the end of the weekend.
