Hey everyone,
Finally, some progress! We went to see the doc today (actually, one of the practice's midwives), and she said that even before today's little "intervention," my body has started to show some of the signs we have been waiting for. If you've been through this before, you know what all of that means.
The little hormone "kick" today is essentially the least invasive thing that they can do to try to help this process along. I asked about the benefits of doing it now rather than waiting to see if my body would go into active labor on its own; basically, the midwife said that the negative side of waiting is that, if no more progress were to occur in the next few days, we'd be almost at the 42-week mark with a lot of distance to travel. That means that the interventions would necessarily have to be more significant and "pushy." That's precisely what I'm trying to avoid. So, I feel very content with today's appointment--my body seems to be getting into labor mode, and the baby looks great!
So, now we're getting through the next few hours to see what happens. The most common reaction to today's procedure is to have some contractions over the next couple hours that eventually fade away. But, she said today that it's entirely possible for the hormone to be just what was needed to get things started for real (and I'll know that by late this evening if I can't walk or talk through the contractions anymore).
We shall see. My next appointment is late Thursday AM, at which point we'll have another ultrasound.
